The town of Maspalomas is formed by the pond of the same name, the dunes and the palm tree grove, all of them with a great ecological value. The district has a total of 29 beaches and coves, including the beaches of Inglés, Maspalomas and San Agustín, all of which hold the blue flag awarded by the European Union. The more up-market Maspalomas resort, with smart hotels, luxury residences and the largest golf course on the island, is separated from Playa del Inglés by a spectacular stretch of 400 hectares of dunes, which in 1994 were designated a national park. You can only cross the dunes on foot or by camel, which makes you believe you’re in a different part of the world altogether.
